Mulyani's resignation not part of Yudhoyono-Aburizal deal

A Golkar Party senior politician says that the party's chairman, Aburizal "Ical" Bakrie, has nothing recent resignation of Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, who is set to become one of the World Bank managing directors this June.

"Pak Ical has had many personal meetings with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, but most are on general issues to do with the nation, not specifically on Bu Sri Mulyani," Priyo said during a discussion at the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Thursday.

Priyo refused to acknowledge that Mulyani's resignation was a political victory for Golkar.

"All I can say that in the future, if we ever have differences, please do not threaten Golkar. We would appreciate it if we were treated with respect," he said.

Speculation is rife that Mulyani's resignation has something to do with Yudhoyono's attempt to tame Golkar following its critical stance on the Bank Century bailout, which was authorized by the finance minister and Vice President Boediono in November 2008. Golkar is part of the government coalition.

In the midst of the escalating House investigation into the bailout, the government suddenly uncovered several tax evasion cases, including those that could possibly implicate businesses affiliated with Ical

Mulyani has had her share of feuds with Ical in the past
